5 Ways to Create More iPhone Storage Space

Do you often get pop-ups saying your iPhone storage is full?

Apple constantly adds minor and odd revisions to its iPhone line ever since it launched. However, the company remains persistent in never adding a memory card slot. Adding one could affect the slim and minimalist design.

While a fair trade, this leads to iPhone storage problems. Without expandable memory, you’ll quickly fill up storage with photos and videos and apps.

How do you deal with this kind of problem? You don’t have to look any further to solve it! We have 5 tips on how you can create more storage on your iPhone right here.

1. Clear Storage and Cache on Your iPhone

The easiest way to create some storage is to delete some files.

Go through all your documents, photos, videos, apps, messages, and voicemails. Delete the ones you don’t want or need anymore. Doing so could also help to make your iPhone run faster.

Another method is to clear your iPhone cache and data. They’re junk or temporary files that accumulate over time and are quite safe to erase. Be sure to clear your Safari browser history and data in the Settings.

The other way to get more storage on iPhone devices is to clear the data from other apps. Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage. You’ll see a summary of how much storage each of the apps occupies.

You could offload the apps but it doesn’t help much. It ‘deletes’ the app but the icon and data remain. Deleting the apps is still the best way to clean up some space.

It could be hard to let go of some of these files, but you could do some backup which we will talk about further in the list.

2. Storage Cleaner Applications

Do you want something a little quicker to clear your storage? Installing cleaning applications might be the solution. You can find a wide variety of apps that could help your storage problems on the iOS App Store.

PhoneClean is one of the most popular applications and it’s free. It can erase the caches, cookies, multiple, and corrupt media files on your phone.

There are some features that you need to pay money to access, but the free version can get the job done.

3. Set up iCloud Storage

Need something stronger than cleaning applications? It’s time to set up your iCloud Storage account. This bad boy can upload and save all your files, messages, and more in real-time as long as you have an internet connection.

iCloud can sync your Apple ID account across different devices as one-stop storage. Be careful not to select the delete option in any of the files by accident because you won’t be able to retrieve them anymore.

Have problems with the iCloud Storage Full? Here’s what you can do:

  • Go to Settings

  • Click on the top one with your name on it

  • Select iCloud

  • Click Manage Storage

Look into what files occupy iCloud storage the most. Turn off the backups that you don’t want to sync anymore and be sure to delete the deleted folder of your photos. After that, you can decide what you think are the unnecessary files to delete later on.

Do you keep multiple backups for your iPhone? Backups could do a number on your storage space so delete the old ones and keep only the most recent one.

Not happy with iCloud? You can use other compatible cloud storage solutions such as Google Drive or DropBox.

4. Transfer the Files to Mac

Do you know how important it is to back up all your files and photos? There have been instances of phones catching on fire while charging.

You can avoid this potential data loss by transferring files to a Mac. Simply connect your iPhone to your Mac and sync.

After you transfer everything, you can delete the files on your phone for more space. This will give way to new files and applications you want to download.

You don’t have to delete your files to have some space. Back it up and you’re good to go.

For even more assurance, transfer the files from your Mac to an external device. Use a flash drive or a mobile hard drive to always have a physical device holding the files. If your phone breaks, you’ll always have the files at the ready.

5. Restore Your iPhone

Do you ever notice the gigantic space that the ‘Other’ folder occupies? This method involves restoring your iPhone to get rid of the contents in that folder. We do suggest doing everything else on the list first before doing this.

Here are the step-by-step procedures:

Turn on your Wi-Fi then go to iCloud. Be sure to back up everything you want to save. Take your time with this step and do a manual backup on each application.

If you want to back up all your photos, turn on iCloud Photos to save them.

When you’re done saving everything, you can now back it up:

  • Go to iCloud Backup

  • Activate and confirm

Wait for the notification stating the last time you performed a backup. Once ready, go to Settings, tap on General, and then Reset. Click on Erase all Content and Settings.

Click on the ‘Erase iPhone’ multiple times and sign in with your Apple ID. After that, the iPhone will reboot itself.

You will also need to wait for the backup to complete its process. Don’t worry if it reboots on its own.
